This class is the last class that Seniors take in the Graphic Design program before they graduate. In my class, they learn how everything they know so far relates to things that they will do in real-world design positions. These positions can be in many fields including, but not limited to, user experience design, visual design, product design, packaging design, graphic design, etc. The list of projects varies slightly from class to class depending on what the students need to learn and how we can build out their portfolios so they have the best chance of landing a great job when they graduate.
Whenever possible, we use human-centered design practices like Design Thinking to steer the student's designs.
This class is required to put on a student exhibition of their life work at the school's CREO event. The exhibition is displayed for 2 weeks and the public is invited to see it.
This class is also required to do a class service project for the university. This semester we are using the Design Thinking process to develop a marketing campaign to increase student registrations for programs that Mount Mary offers graduating high school seniors. See more on the Design Thinking project.
Required student projects include:
Small business logo design, type movie poster, merged corporate brand identity, product packaging, personal portfolio redesign (redesign something from your portfolio), a shock-marketing campaign for a local non-profit.
Some of the student's projects are shown below:
Student Feedback:
"The professor gave us real-world scenario projects and encouraged our creativity in a way that helped me so much."
